Farmhouse Addition

This project transformed a split-level home into a modern farmhouse. The existing attached garage, mudroom and pantry were removed to make room for a one-story addition of approximately 1,500 square feet. We designed it as the home's new heart: a vaulted great room with exposed wood beams and a welcoming fireplace, an open kitchen with a large island, and a hard-working back entry with a mudroom, walk-in pantry, laundry and a dog-wash shower.

A deep wrap-around porch with natural wood posts and a standing-seam metal roof ties the new farmhouse character back to the original home. Board-and-batten and lap siding, black windows and simple gables give the house a cohesive look from every side. Inside, I reworked the former kitchen into a sitting room, home office and powder room, so the original spaces and the addition flow together as one.
