Great Room & Loft Addition

These homeowners were my first local clients after I moved to Colorado, and they hold a special place in my heart. A few years after settling into their home, they asked me to design a great room addition that would give the family more room to gather and make the most of the views they love.

The original ranch house was all on one level, so the addition brought something new. I designed a vaulted great room with a new dining room and family room, wrapped in tall windows that frame the open land and big sky beyond. Tucked up under the roof, a small loft overlooks the room below. It's a treehouse-like getaway that serves as a reading nook, a play space and, on the right day, a fort. Exposed wood beams and a wood-and-cable railing add warmth to the bright, open room.

They loved the addition so much that they asked me back again, this time to design an in-law suite.
