Maryland Waterfront Home

This waterfront home on Maryland's Middle River was designed for a couple who had found the perfect property and wanted a home built around life on the water. It was the first home I designed after moving to Colorado, and we worked through every detail together, entirely remotely.

I organized the design around the water. Tall gables, expansive windows, and covered porches and decks open the home to the river. The main level, nearly 3,800 square feet, holds a great room with a fireplace, an open kitchen, a media room, the owners' bedroom and a private in-law suite, with a loft and guest suites upstairs. A three-car garage and a separate “toy barn” house the owners' boats and gear, and navy siding, white trim and stone bases give the home a classic coastal character.

This project launched SCD Architecture in Colorado, and it remains one of my favorite examples of how well remote collaboration can work.
